BEING BLACK by Jeffrey Kent
Jeffrey Kent’s BEING BLACK, presents new collections from Kent: painting, bricolage, and sculpture from ‘Where We Played,’ painting and bricolage from ‘Power,’ and sculptures from ‘BEING BEAUTIFLLD;’ all chapters from Kent’s anticipated memoirs. These collections provide examinations and reveries into BEING BLACK. From the experiences and lessons ingrained in childhood through understanding and interpreting the undercurrent that is ever-present in black life in racist society to the culmination of a life carved out from contradiction and trap doors into resplendent celebration.

BEING WHITE by Kim Rice
Kim Rice’s ‘BEING WHITE’ work is composed of artworks from three of Rice’s collections; ‘Caution,’ ‘Inheritance,’ and ‘Redlining.’ These collections focus on the harm in disavowing the generational, lasting, and continuing effects of slavery and racism, as in ‘Inheritance’ and ‘Redlining;’ and the ever-present danger white skin presents to black lives, as in ‘Caution.’ Rice’s artwork is an internal meditation as well as a public examination of the individual white - in this case a self-identified woman’s, or - person’s role in shaping society; and the history (personal, political, and societal) of overt and passive racist behavior.
